Auditions
The audition process for Season 7 “Technobabble” September 10, 2016
We will be holding an OPEN CALL AUDITION for this upcoming season. That means that when dancers arrive, they can expect the following to happen:
- Registration (handing in ALL signed forms and all fees listed in the contract that are due $235 total per family)
- Headshot for the performance program We will have a photographer present who will be taking your headshot for the season 7 performance program prior to your audition on September 10th, 2016. Make sure that your appearance reflects the way that you would like to be represented in our program. Girls should wear make-up and all should have hair done nicely. (Female dancers will have time after photo to put hair up in a bun).
- Solo Presentation for casting choreographers
- Group choreography session to learn show combination from one of our choreographers
- Perform combination in medium sized groups for the choreographers that are casting
- Callbacks (possibly performing individually prepared piece for choreographers only – see below for instructions)
In order to prepare for audition, please complete the following steps:
1. Carefully look over all forms with a parent, if under 18 years of age. Forms, include:
- Company member’s Registration/Liability/Contract
- Audition Questionnaire
- Casting Sheet
- Facility Use Agreement
- Biography Sheet (Must be complete upon auditioning)
All forms are in PDF format and are available for download/print under the “Forms” tab.
2. Begin with a Solo Performance (less than 30 seconds). We would like to see your best work and lots of personality! From there, we will send dancers to the group choreography round, where dancers will learn a short selection of high energy choreography for the upcoming show. If there is any uncertainty about casting, dancers may be asked to repeat their solos or asked to show skills in another area of dance (BE PREPARED WITH ALL DANCE SHOES).
Tips for a good solo:
- Choose music that inspires you!
- Showcase your strongest technique and skills
- Showcase your personality within your choreography
- Keep eyes up and shoulders back!
- Perform it fearlessly!!
- Bring your cued up music in on an mp3 player that can be plugged in to an auxillary cord, used on Sonos (need Sonos app), or an Ipod/Iphone. No CD’s please.
3. Check for your audition date and time under the “Dates” tab. If you will not be available for the audition date, please let us know so that we may attempt to schedule an audition time BEFORE the regular audition date. It is likely that missing a scheduled audition will hurt a dancer’s chances to be seen by all choreographers and will invariably alter the outlook of the casting process in a dramatic way for that dancer. A dancer who is not present at the time of auditions, regardless of skill level, may not be cast well as a result.
4. All forms must be completed and signed prior to audition. We would like to ensure that all questions and concerns are addressed before dancer is contracted. In order to accomplish this, all minors must have a parent or guardian present when registering for their audition on September 10th, 2016. Illumination Dance Company exists due to the diligence and excellence of each member, administrator, and volunteer involved. Thus, we hold each one of our contracted dancers to a high moral and professional standard. The expectation is that each dancer cast will meet the requirements of the signed Company Member’s Contract.
5. Auditioning is not only about how well you dance, but how professionally you present yourself. Choreographers who are giving of their time are encouraged to choose the best dancers available for their pieces. Make sure to arm yourself with the following advantages when you come to your audition:
- Be well groomed and wear clean, form fitting, all black dance wear.
- If you are wearing dance shorts, make sure to wear tights.
- For females, make sure after your photo to put your hair in a tight ballet bun (bring appropriate tools to do so).
- Bring all pairs of dance shoes: Jazz, Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Hip Hop (Tennis shoes)
6. Lastly, please remember to check your email regularly following auditions for the master cast list to be posted as well as company information that is pertinent to each and every member.
Please read through each of the following PDF documents, print and complete in full before arriving at your audition time.
